Objective:                 To provide a quality education to children with special needs, between the ages of 6 –21.

 

Admission Philosophy: Admission to Ideal Education School is open to all legal residents of Kuwait who have been assessed as a person with special needs and been granted the applicable certification by the appropriate authorities. Further, all students must be between 5 and 21 years of age on the first day of the school year in which they will attend the school.

 

Enrolment Procedures:

 

1.       Parents wishing to enroll their child in the Ideal Education School must call the school to make an appointment for an admission interview. Both parents are encouraged to attend the interview with their child. Pre-screening will take place during the telephone contact to ensure that the child meets basic admission criteria. At this time parents will also be advised of documentation required (see #4).

2.       The preliminary evaluation is carried out by an admission team consisting of school psychologists, Speech therapists, Physical therapists and Occupational therapists

3.       The case will be studied by the admission team and recommendations will be provided to the vice principle for further approval of admission.

4.       This is followed by:

·         Completion of an application form: parent(s) will be asked to complete the form which includes comprehensive background information on the family and child.

·         Introduction to the school: school policies, placement criteria, curriculum, special services and extracurricular activities will be described.

·         Assessment of the child: the functional levels of the child will be assessed using the levels included in the BCP Curriculum/FACES/ASDAN-bronze.

·         Medical review: if the child presents serious medical issues the school doctor will be consulted.

5.       If the child is found to be suitable for the school and a placement is available, the family will be taken on a tour of the facility and given the opportunity for classrooms observations.

6.       Following the tour the family will be escorted to the administrative department where they will be asked to complete the following documents:

·         Copy of the approval from the higher council for the disabled.

·         Copy of the disabled certificate.

·         Copy of the child’s medical reports.

·         Copy of the last school report.

·         Copy of the disabled card.

·         Copy of the birth certificate.

·         Copy of the child’s Civil ID and parent’s Civil ID.

·         Copy of the Kuwaiti nationality for the father.

·         Four passport size photos.

·         Medical file.

·         Clarification from the previous school.

7.       In the event that the child is found to be appropriate for the school and a placement is not available, he/she will be placed on a waiting list.

8.       If the school is determined to be unsuitable for the child referrals will be made to an appropriate placement.

  1. If accepted, the Higher Council for Disabled Affairs shall provide the student’s annual fees in four installments.  Parents must sign a formal application for each installment or the Higher Council will stop payment. When there are fee deductions made by the Council, the parents shall be responsible to reimburse the school.

Placement Procedures:

 

Each applicant must be assessed prior to acceptance as a new student. Based on the records from the previous educational institution and the admission assessment, students will be placed by the admission team into a classroom within the appropriate department according to his chronological age and the functional level of the student. The current departments are based on the nature of dominant disability. The current departments are:

 

1.    ASDD –Autistic Spectrum Disorder Department.

2.    Cerebral Palsy Department.

3.    Developmentally Delayed Department.

4.    Down’s syndrome Department.

5.    Vocational Department.

 

 

Within the Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Developmental Delayed and Down’s syndrome departments, the students will be placed in a specific class based on their ages as of the first day of school. As they age, they will be moved to a class for older students within the same department. If appropriate, students 18 years and older will be placed in the Vocational Department for advanced life skills and vocational training.

 

Upon acceptance, students will be assessed by support services departments; which are Speech Therapy including AAC and MAKATON, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, psychological and behavioral therapy. Following an assessment, the applicable department will start a dedicated therapy program if it is determined that the student would benefit from it.
